Entry requirements at a glance

Microchip
Required

ISO 11784/11785 standard 15-digit microchip. Must be implanted before or at the time of the first rabies vaccination — never after.

Rabies vaccine
Required. Two rabies vaccines given at least 30 days apart, plus a booster.
Health certificate
Health certificate from a USDA-accredited vet endorsed by USDA APHIS.
Rabies titer test
Required Required: FAVN titer test showing ≥0.5 IU/mL from an approved lab, at least 180 days before import.
Quarantine on arrival
Mandatory quarantine 7-day quarantine if fully compliant. If documents are incomplete or 180-day wait not observed, quarantine can extend to 21 days.

Step-by-step process notes

Taiwan's process is similar to Japan's: the 180-day wait after a successful titer test is the main bottleneck. Pets must obtain an import permit from the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) before travel. Pre-arrival notification and approval from BAPHIQ is required. Start at least 9 months before your travel date.
